Realising An Opt-In Bribe’s Full Potential When Selling Information Products

An opt-in bribe is integral to any sales funnel centred around a list, not only because it increases your squeeze page’s conversion rate, but also because it starts the subtle process of opening a subscriber’s wallet. A bribe offers the opportunity to show your quality, both as an expert in your niche and as a marketer. If you exploit a bribe’s potential, you can drive new subscribers bat-shit crazy over your products. In this post I’m going to discuss some of the functions I believe an effective bribe will perform.

Provide Tangible Value
It’s easy to treat prospects like marks to be hustled rather than people you’re going to bowl over with blinding value. I think many internet marketers’ products are swindles. They belittle their prospects in their minds, and that leads to their content being average and their sales pages appearing scammy. Funnily enough, their sense of superiority makes them a poor marketer who provides little value.

An effective bribe isn’t full of theory, isn’t unclear, and isn’t run-of-the-mill. It will provide the exact steps for your prospect to achieve a real result. An effective bribe will be memorable and establish yourself as a bonafide expert.

Create Hunger
The bribe shouldn’t be a complete solution to your prospect’s problem, but should explain both how they’ll get to the solution and how to firmly start that journey. If your bribe truly helps them, they’ll be grateful to you, and they’ll want to continue their journey down the path you’ve mapped out.

Be Entertaining
When looking at your tracking statistics, you can forget that your prospects are actual human beings. With no face-to-face contact, and with prospects being reduced to dots on a screen, it’s almost like they’re mindless robots.

Anyone who has signed up to a few lists knows that many bribes are flat and boring, even when they’re offering practical value. It’s as if the bribe was produced by just going through the motions. They pay no attention to their persona, and make no effort to make their content engaging. Ideally, people would read the bribe even if it had no practical use for them whatsoever because it’s just that entertaining.

Let Them Join Your Community
The bribe should be like an initiation ritual, a rite of passage, a door to a new and exciting community. And when they’re in, they must produce cash to continue to feel part of it. A bribe can introduce the community and set the stage for future emails they’ll receive.
